Safe & Supportive Schools Program Team (Behavioral Threat Assessment)

CSA Administration and the Safe & Supportive Schools Program Team (CSA SSSP Team) have completed extensive training in student behavior threat assessment, as developed by the Texas State School Safety Center.

Chaparral Star Academy’s threat assessment protocol helps to reduce the risk of violence, increases school safety, identifies educational needs and support services for students who have made a threat, and provides reasonable and accepted practices for violence prevention.

The CSA SSSP Team takes appropriate action when there are indications that a student is planning to commit a violent act. A threat assessment is conducted when a person (or persons) threatens to commit a violent act or engages in behavior that appears to threaten an act of violence.

The CSA SSSP Team is composed of

The CSA SSSP Team follows up with the campus when a threat is determined to be a substantive threat to provide additional assessment, guidance, and safety planning.

IMPLEMENTATION

Chaparral Star Academy began its Threat Assessment Program in the Spring of 2022 as a comprehensive approach to prevention and school safety. Campuses are expected to report and investigate all threats of violence immediately and work actively to prevent acts of violence before they occur, using a Multi-Tiered System of Support, including PBIS, the student support counselor and community resources.

WHAT PARENTS AND STUDENTS NEED TO KNOW

  • Any threat must be reported to the school Principal or any campus administrator
  • The investigation may involve administration, the student support counselor, the police, or other community agencies
  • The investigation may involve personal property searches
  • Interviews will be held with the threat maker and other students or adults who may have information about the threat
  • Parents of students who are directly involved will be notified
  • Threatening behavior may result in disciplinary action
  • An intervention plan may be developed for the student making the threat and a support plan developed for any individuals targeted by violence.
  • Parents and students may provide feedback on how incidents are handled by engaging with CSA

METHODS TO REPORT THREATS

Any individuals wishing to report concerns for threats of school violence may notify any school personnel, administrator, or the student support counselor. Suspicious or illegal activities that take place on school property should be reported immediately to school administrators. In addition, students, parents, employees, and community members may make a report through the reporting any suspicious behaviors form. Reports may remain anonymous.

PARENT NOTIFICATION

The student’s parent or guardian shall be notified if any prohibited articles or materials are found on school property, or on the student’s person as a result of a search conducted in accordance with this policy.
