Active Threat/Shooter Protocol

The safety and security of staff and students has been and will always be the top priority at Chaparral Star Academy.

For any emergency or threat to the school, CSA administration will utilize the Standard Response Protocol to respond to the situation and ensure the safety of students & staff, including an active threat/active shooter.

Although many security procedures are confidential to ensure the safety of our students and staff, CSA can share a few proactive measures that are in place.

Chaparral Star Academy has several protocols in place for Drills including fire, tornado, bomb threat, lockdowns, and active threat shooter utilizing the Standard Response Protocol. CSA has long been prepared for a school-wide lockdown and active shooter situation. The administrative staff has work closely with other entities to develop our Multi-Hazard Emergency Operations Plan, as outlined by the Texas School Safety Center.

In addition, the School Safety & Security Committee meets throughout the year to discuss emergency situations and make adjustments to our plans.

CSA has taken thorough measures to ensure the physical safety and security of staff and students. CSA maintains a strict Visitors to Campus Protocol and uses the Raptor Visitor Management System that requires all visitors to check-in at the front office and undergo a screening before entering the building.

Additionally, in the case of an active threat event, all CSA staff have been trained in CRASE procedures, as well as STOP THE BLEED procedures.

With the proximity card access control system, exterior doors remain locked throughout the school day & are constantly monitored by security camera systems. In addition, all classrooms have telephones to facilitate routine and emergency communication while administration carries charged & open two-way communication devices.

Any time there is an emergency situation, the District will communicate instructions and status via the District’s Facebook page, webpage and Simpletexting software.

One of the most important safety measures we as a District and community can take is being vigilant and reporting any suspicious behaviors or issues of potential concern. We encourage the reporting of suspected dangers to the appropriate authorities.
