Community-Based Fine Arts Programs

Students wishing to add an agency to the list for the 2023-24 school year must contact Mr. Barnett by September 12, 2023.

For students who participate in off-campus fine arts programs (dance, theatre, art or music), it is possible that the activity can substitute for fine arts graduation requirements.  For more information about graduation requirements, please follow the links on our website for  HB5 Graduation Plans.

Students can utilize CBFAP if the program represents a fine arts course not offered by CSA, is not an individualized endeavor (e.g. private lessons) and meets or exceeds the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills for a respective high school course.  The CBFAP program may only satisfy the one-credit fine arts graduation requirement (i.e. can only count once and not as an elective).

In order for participation in an off-campus Community-Based Fine Arts Program (CBFAP) to substitute as a high school fine arts credit, the activity must be approved by Chaparral Star Academy and the Texas Education Agency.  A list of current agencies can be found below.  Additional agencies may be added to the list at the beginning of each school year.  Please contact the front office for further details.

If a student would like to apply for CBFAP, he/she will need to take the following steps:

1.) AT THE BEGINNING OF THE SEMESTER FOR WHICH THE STUDENT WISHES TO RECEIVE CREDIT, he/she must submit a completed Community Based Fine Arts Program Substitution Application  There will be an advertised due date for each semester.  Students wishing to utilize CBFAP during Spring 2024 for high school graduation credit must submit the completed application by February 1, 2024.

It is preferred that this form, along with all necessary attachments, is submitted electronically to Mr. Barnett.

2.) AT THE END OF THE RESPECTIVE SEMESTER, the student must submit a completed Community Based Fine Arts Program Verification of Participation.  Once the hours have been verified, the student will receive credit for CBFAP.  There will be an advertised due date for each semester.  Students wishing to utilize CBFAP during Spring 2024 for high school graduation credit must submit the completed verification of hours by May 17, 2024.

It is preferred that this form, along with all necessary attachments, is submitted electronically to Mr. Barnett.

Please to contact Kris Barnett if there are any questions regarding the process.
