Welcome students and parents. Below you will find a sample schedule which shows a typical day of our classes as well as our class syllabus. I am thrilled to see so many familiar names on my incoming student roster, and if you are a parent of an incoming 3rd grader, welcome to CSA! I take tremendous pride in making our classroom a fun, safe, routine based environment.

ELA (English Language Arts) 90 min

  • Vocab: Use a class dictionary to find and write the definition for the word of the day: “champion”. Then, use the word in a complete sentence to show that you understand the word's meaning.
  • Phonics: After reviewing our sample questions, students will complete and turn in the assigned 2 pages of ELA (Statements and Questions & Capitalization and punctuation Worksheets). They may also review our initial outline lesson if they would like extra assistance.
  • Writing – Students will write a short creative essay of at least 8 sentences. It can be about whatever topic you like, but you must use at least 8 of this week’s spelling words. These words are listed below and are also on our ClassDojo website.

  • Reading 20 minutes. As a class we will read and the first 4 pages of our story of the week "The Castle on Hester Street". We will then discuss examples of similes and metaphors used in the story.
 

Math - 45 min 

  • We will watch the brief SAVAAS video that describes Place Value Relationships. As a class, we will then complete the initial lesson along with solve and share pages 27 & 28.
  • Students will then begin independent practice pages 29-32 from our Math Text. What they do not finish in class will be completed for homework (Students, make sure you show your work if it is asked of you).

Social Studies - 45 min 

  • In spaced, small groups, students will read pages 26, 30 and 31 from our Social Studies text. We will then complete a review activity as a class which describes the characteristics of rural, urban and suburban communities.
 
*** Note: Our daily homework load typically consists of ELA and Math assignments and is between 4-5 pages***
